During the 2023 offseason the Rockets made some crucial roster decisions that made them take a jump during the following season, and I think that, with the changes in the blazers way of playing showed in the second half of the past season, and some of the additions they have made, it could indicate that maybe its time for a winning record season in Portland as happened with that Houston team.
Comparing rosters and players narratives: ---
Back court:
Holiday-Fred Van Vleet: both teams made the new addition of a veteran point guard to help development and provide some stable moments in games (Portland move is more defensively oriented with Jrue´s age while FVV is a more rounded player in the moment)
Scoot- Amen: They both had to learn entering the league, but Amen´s physique made the transition easier as he is a beast. I do think this year Scoot could make a nice leap, reason why I´m comparing the situation.
Shaedon-Jalen Green: Great but inefficient scorers with inmense potential and still very young. I give the nod to Shae for personal preference.
Also to sustain my claim Portland has a legend back in Damian Lillard who I know will help mentoring these last 2 Blazers take a decent leap this upcoming year. *Forwards and centers:
Defensive frontcourt beasts:
Toumani Camara, Clingan, Thybulle - Eason, Jabari Smith, Amen in the defensive side
"Star"
Avdija-Sengun: I know their positions are not comparable, but I do think Deni could have that fringe all star role Sengun. And in a way they have similar abilities.
More role players
Jerami Grant-Dillon Brooks: I think if JG embraces a new defensive culture and plays his role having all the money he has guaranteed he could have similar impact on the upcoming season.
RWIII, Duop Reath, Murray, Rayan Rupert, Yang hansen - Jeff Green, Jock landale, Reggie Bullock, Cam whitmore
I think there is a decent comparison here and the Blazers may even have a better depth than that Rockets had then (even though the west is even more stacked 2 years later), but this are my thoughts. Comment if you agree or not, i would like to discuss with more people this view on the blazers for next season.
