Could this get us Turner+Collins?

SUCCESS

So basically, let's assume the Blazers' pick lands at around 6-10 (which is probable), I think they could use that to trade down and the Hornets may be interested in doing so and then after that they can use those 2 picks in a blockbuster trade on draft day.

  1. Why the Blazers would do this:

Portland are very likely to keep Dame next season and due to that they should do everything they can to try to build a win-now team and what better way to do it by adding an excellent rim protector that can space the floor along with someone that could be a borderline all-star somewhere else and even if he couldn't he would be a very good contributor in both sides of the floor either way even if it's at the sacrifice of this year's #6-10 pick along with Miluawkee's 2025 first round pick. Another great thing about this to Portland is that they keep both their second round picks this year so they still might be able to draft some gems in the second round. This may also allow Portland to trade Nurkic away or not see the need to sign him at all. Perhaps Sacramento trade Harrison Barnes for Nurkic in this situation?

  1. Why the Hawks would do this:

Atlanta need to retool their roster and build it around Trae Young. John Collins does not seem like his future is at Atlanta as of now and supposedly, they are willing to get a starter and a first round pick in return for him. Well, a lottery pick that Portland gained from Charlotte along with Malcolm Brogdon with Pacers should do it and on top of that they get a solid defensive piece in Winslow, a future 2nd, and a young player that may have a role long-term. Even if Atlanta have to give up Collins, Gallinari, Johnson, and next year's second round pick they get:

A. High-end starter who can play defence, playmake, shoot, and score all at a solid level next to Trae Young.

B. Lottery pick which could get Atlanta someone very good that could slot into their starting 5 and if that player does not satisfy them then he can be used in a trade quite easily.

C. A solid role player in Winslow.

D. A future second-round pick which is far away from now but a pick regardless.

E. A low-risk young player that MAY serve Atlanta a purpose long-term.

This is not a bad trade for the Hawks at all as they still get to keep many of their other assets that could help them trade for more players that would help Trae Young (not to mention that with the Charlotte lottery pick they may feel more open to trading their #16 pick for a very good player).

  1. Why the Pacers would do this:

No doubt they're giving up their 2 most valuable trade assets this offseason but this is not a bad trade for them. Turner can be replaced by who ever gets selected with that Pelicans pick OR someone in FA (Mo Bamba?) and can also get other young guys such as Jalen Johnson (which may be able to fill in Jalen Smith's spot if he does not re-sign) and Keon Johnson (who was a really good lockdown defender in college so that can help the Pacers) and the Pacers also get two veterans who are on expiring contracts which are $40.7 Million and that can offer financial flexibility in many ways:

A. $40.7 Million cap space cleared by 2023 B. Can be used in trades for players with high salaries (or from teams that require veterans who can play some defence).

Indiana also get a pick that MARGINALLY falls outside the lottery along with 2 Second Round Picks from this year as well as 2 future First Round Picks so this is not a bad trade for Indiana at the slightest.

  1. Why the Hornets could trade their two picks for Portland's pick in the first place:

Assuming Charlotte get picks #14 and #15 in the draft and Portland gets #7, Charlotte could very well be enticed by the idea of trading up for Portland's pick to draft someone like Jalen Duren (since the Hornets need that kind of player pretty badly right now) and Portland can add a future second round pick to entice Charlotte further.

After these trades, the starting 5s could look something like this for the following teams:

Portland: Dame Simons Little (or player acquired from potential Nurkic trade) Turner Collins

Atlanta: Trae Brogdon Hunter Capela Hornets lottery pick

Pacers: Haliburton Duarte Their Lottery pick selection FA/Pelicans pick Jackson/Johnson

Hornets: Lamelo Rozier Bridges Blazers pick (probably Duren) Washington
