For Cleveland: Every postseason DG has shown that he can’t cut it on defense. By making this move, Cleveland is committing to a core of Mitchell, Mobley and Allen; allowing Mobley to blossom as the no. 2 option on the team. Their starting 5 would likely be Spida, Strus, Hunter, Mobley and Allen with the bench consisting of Conley, Donte, Okoro, Wade and Reid. In addition, CLE can trade Okoro or Wade to another team to get below the 2nd apron if they want CAP flexibility or the ability to resign Ty Jerome. NOTE This trade does require Naz Reid to accept his player option, something that very likely could NOT happen if a team with cap space offers him more money elsewhere or if a C needy team like LAL offers a sign and trade package to MN for him.
For Minnesota: Ant has proven he’s a Superstar, he needs help. Trading depth to bolster the starting 5 is extremely risky, but it could pay dividends. With a starting 5 of DG, Ant, McDaniels, Randle and Gobert; DGs defensive woes will be irrelevant. Meanwhile, his offense will be a warm welcome to a roster that desperately needs another ball handler. If I am the Wolves GM, I’m likely pulling the trigger here.
