THIS IS ONLY THE GAMES THAT I NOT ONLY WATCHED BUT WATCHED THE ENTIRETY OF WITH FULL FOCUS.
I watched most of the other games if you want to give your takeaways on those I will likely give my input. I would just be less confident posting about games I didn’t give my full focus to.
Kings vs Lakers
Knecht has trouble creating separation Armel Traore has a great motor, good play finishing, good strong defense, a bit out of control and not much playmaking. Very physical athlete. Maxwell Lewis looks great creating but hasn’t gained much size if any since last year Bronny looks overzealous defensively
Heat vs Warriors
Ware needs to rely more on his in the paint game he isn’t a reliable enough shooter yet to base his game around that. Also needs to be more competitive on the glass. Overall didn’t look comfortable but it’s his first game and he is raw. Cole Swider needs a real nba contract he’s an elite shooter who hasn’t gotten opportunity yet because of what he was pre nba. Hornets vs Spurs
Harrison Ingram’s lack of burst is really hindering him. His bully ball won’t work in the NBA as much as it did in college. Needs to knock down the 3. He’s making great connective passes though. Castle looks great. Shooting well. Playing great defense. Making great passes. His self creation attempts haven’t gone well though. The main thing is how he’s looked out of the P&R it reminds me of how Podz looked running the P&R in summer league last year it’s been way better than I could have imagined. Saying he’ll be a star pg one day now. Leaky black is an elite defender no doubt about it. Nick smiths self creation has gotten even better. Might become impactful one day as an off the bench scorer. Still needs to improve on defense and fill out.
Warriors vs Lakers
Reece beekman could possibly be on a 15 man roster if his shot falls but there’s no chance outside of that. He doesn’t create much for himself and his playmaking isn’t as enticing when you consider most 6ft 2ish point guards of age 22 can pass. Really good defense this game like always. Maxwell Lewis showed why he may not be a great self creator yet. Would like his teammates to create more for him as 1 3point attempt shouldn’t happen. Dalton Knecht moved well off the ball and they ran many actions for him off a screen or a Dho. He didn’t finish or shoot well but he showed flashes of his athleticism in the 3rd Q. Needs to be able to finish at the rim or he’s not doing much for the team besides shooting. Bowden and Plowden potential two way guys. Second game in a row they’ve played well. Hinson is really out of control and doesn’t have a great iq. Don’t love his chances. Rough traore game. He tried to do to much and showed that he isn’t versatile at all on the perimeter. Looked like he broke out of the set a couple times to play as the announcers called “hero ball” and it ended up with a bad shot. Was surprised that he attempts some 3s but nothing about his shot looks promising
Grizzlies vs Thunder I like Ajay Mitchell. Really runs the offense and can get to the rim. Strong defender with good hands. Ousmane motor was very inconsistent today. He heated up late though. The defense is there and he has good vision but his deliveries were off. Still racked up a ton of assists as he was the primary option the whole time. Good on ball defense. Scotty pippen controlled the whole second half with his pest defense and playmaking. He gets to the rim enough to demand some attention and he has a nice shot. Elite hands. His size caps his ceiling but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a backup point one day. Gg Jackson is facing some of the same struggles he did at South Carolina in the summer league. When he’s one of the primary options it exposes some parts of his game. He has a very loose handle and this caused many turnovers. He isn’t a bad passer but he’s late on a lot of reads. I think he can create a bit and there should be some hope he develops more of that but it isn’t needed. Hes already a great shooter and solid defender. Jemison was dominant today but you shouldn’t overreact. He was completely reliant on physicality he’s too undersized to ever do that in the league. Dillon jones played great defense and is a good rebounder and passer. He does a lot of things well on the court but for guys like him they need to be able to shoot to get real nba run. His shot is clunky and he didn’t shoot well tonight. The way he shoots just seems like it wouldn’t be suited for deeper shots as it’s all arms and that’s been the story tonight as they’ve all been short.
