After drafting Banchero I was worried that, with a crowded frontcourt rotation Franz would get less touches. To my surprise, he's used a lot as a ballhandler this year, and unlocking a part of his game that many people (including myself) didn't think he'd have in him as far as creating offense for himself and others off the drible. Always a decent/smart passer, now he's unlocking his passing IQ with much improved handles that's making him a sneaky playmaker. Playing pretty much the entirity of his minutes at the wing, Wagner is showing real self creation and secondary playmaking skills. To add to that, since he's basically Magic's SG, his rebounding average have stagnated due to their jumbo lineups.
Obviously not comparing the level of player, but Franz play much like Luka, at his own speed and usually below the rim. Due to shooting less 3s of assists (61% from 83%), his percentage has gone down, also the Magic don't have any true PG which hurt his shooting splits. In any case, he's putting 20/4/4 on 59% TS, and he's taken his scoring up a notch in November as he is currently averaging 22 on 64% TS this month and has only shot below 50% in 3 out of his 14 games for the month.
He's a legit keeper for the Orlando going forward. Imo, next to Banchero, WCJ and Suggs (and lowkey Bol Bol), Franz is a part of their true young core. Currently, he's surely one of the underrated young guys in the league, and for this season a top 3 sophmore next to Green and Mobley. Btw, he's doing all that with a ligament injury in his hand (weirdly the Magic haven't shut him down yet).
