Everything you need to know for the NBA Trade Deadline Day 1

Unless otherwise mentioned, credit to sources like Bleacher report, the ringer, etc. to help compile this info

Poeltl interest

Marc Stein reported Jakob Poeltl wants a $20 million contract in free agency this summer. The Spurs have asked for two lightly protected firsts for the sought after center. The Spurs are hopeful that they can resign the center; they may not be bluffing.

The Warriors have been looking at Jakob Poetl as a backup center, or a big wing like Jaden McDaniels. Those would take substantial assets, including James Wiseman.

  • Richaun Holmes has generated interest if as a buyout candidate, but his contract is too big for a lot of teams to acquire in a trade. Sabonis is the Kings’ star center, and Metu has received more playing time.

  • Mo Bamba will also be readily available according to the Ringer. The Clippers have shown interest.

Allen-Reddish swap?

The Knicks have expressed interest in Grayson Allen, while several teams, the Heat and the Bucks, have expressed interest in Cam Reddish. Interesting swap that could happen. Not sure that would work straight up, but Allen’s defensive liabilities could make him tradeable. The Knicks have reportedly wanted two second round picks for reddish.

Ibaka's request

Serge Ibaka is away from the team as the Bucks aim to find a trade for him.

Clippers + Toronto strategies, point guard rumors

It seems as if the Timberwolves may trade D’Angelo Russell, possibly for Fred VanVleet.

The Clippers are looking to add a true point guard. Kawhi Leonard has recently been playing his best ball of the season, averaging 29.9 points over his last 7 games. The Clippers may target Mike Conley or Fred VanVleet. The Clippers, along with the Nuggets, are also looking to shore up the front line by finding a replacement for Ivica Zubac – Naz Reid.

Sources say head coach Tyronn Lue would like to replace Robert Covington with a more traditional center.

  • The Clippers could also look to acquire Hartenstein back to the Clippers, who has been misused and injured.

According to Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star, at least one team has offered three first round picks for OG. VanVleet is likely to cost two promising young players and a first round pick.

Suns looking to make moves?

James Jones has been a stubborn negotator with Jae Crowder, "balking" at some offers for him. Phoenix may have to lower their asking price to trade him. The Wizards did not accept another trade offer for Rui Hachimura, which would've sent Hachimura to the Suns and Crowder to the Bucks, as the Wizards collected three second round picks.

The Suns have sought out potential reinforcements for CP3, who has struggled this season with injuries and consistency. Quickley (who the Knicks seem increasingly reluctant to trade), Rozier (who could be sold but his contract would be difficult to absorb), and Vanvleet have been linked.

  • It is believed that the Rockets are asking for too much for Eric Gordon, considering his age (34) and his contract. The price is believed to be a first round pick. The Bucks have reportedly pitched the Rockets with various scenarios involving four second round picks, a unique strategy.

Jazz strategy

The Jazz are open to trade talks, only Lauri Markennen and Walker Kessler are unavailable, however.

  • The Hawks have been willing to trade John Collins for what seems like forever, but his contract drives down his value significantly. The Heat, Suns, and Wizards have previously been linked to the forward.

Aftermath of the Hachimura trade

The Wizards are focused on resigning Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis, who are both likely to decline their player options this summer. They have said no on trade scenarios entailing them.

Heat rumors

The Heat have obviously been trying to trade Duncan Robinson without any success.

The Heat aren’t aiming to trade Lowry at the trade deadline, but they are looking to add backup big depth. Undrafted rookie orlando robinson is currently taking big minutes backing up bam adebayo, and they’d also like a true 4 (they’ve been linked to john collins and jae crowder). Caleb Martin, who plays starting 4 right now, is much more equipped as a wing player.

Hornets prepared to sell?

The Hornets’ are prepared to trade some of their veterans during this NBA trade deadline, including Kelly Oubre Jr., Terry Rozier, and Gordon Hayward. Hayward’s contract looks very difficult to move, a low scoring average and has been in and out of th lineup. Oubre Jr. has had a careery year but had a torn ligament in his hand, making his return questionable by the Feb. 9 trade deadline. Rozier’s contract would be something to commit to.

More potential moves for Lakers?

After acquiring Hachimura, the Lakers may look to shop off Patrick Beverley and trade for a shooting wing, such as Bojan Bogdanovic. The price is high for Bojan, who leads the Pistons in scoring, while Buddy Hield and Myles Turner have seemingly been forever linked to the Lakers (shipping off Westbrook, of course). Perhaps the Lakers could execute a deal entailing just Beverley and Hield, however.

  • Evan Fournier wants to stay with the Knicks, but he also feels he's in the best shape in his career and wants to play.
