2024 Draft Predictions

Obviously this is way too early, but just some thoughts and something I can compare to halfway into the season.

  1. Pistons - Ron Holland. Bogdanovic will probably be traded and anyway is too old for their current core, and Holland would slot in perfectly beside Cade, Ausar, Stewart and Duren with Ivey coming off the bench.

  2. Hornets - Stephon Castle. Rozier doesn't match their timeline and he would probably be better for them as a scoring punch off the bench. LaMelo, Castle, Miller, PJ and Williams does bode for a promising future.

  3. Wizards - Alexandre Sarr. They may already have Gafford, but the team will be tanking still for a couple years and as we've all learnt as NBA viewers, when you pick this high in the draft you go for talent not fit, and Sarr's talent is undeniable. He can run PF if the Wizards don't want to hamper Gafford's development, Tyus can be moved to the bench where he thrives and the Washington front office can experiment with Poole being their PG as he's already shown major playmaking chops for GSW.

  4. Spurs - Isaiah Collier. They have enough wings in their team already, to the point that Sochan will probably be moved to the bench. What they do need is a true PG who can run the pick and roll with Wembanyama and use his size to full effect, and Collier can do that. The team will be playoff ready by the following year.

  5. Blazers - Matas Buzelis. The Blazers obviously have too many guards, and drafting Buzelis would mean they could have the luxuries of either playing all three of Scoot, Simons and Sharpe and still not worry about size with 6'10 Buzelis and 7'1 Ayton behind them, or relegate one of the guards to the bench for the sake of defence, start Grant alongside Buzelis and still not lose out on quality on the court.

  6. OKC (via Rockets) - Justin Edwards. With a core of Shai, Giddey, JDub and Chet, they just need a 3&D wing to round out the roster. Edwards is exactly that and could challenge Lu Dort for the starting spot immediately after drafting. I do think this is a pick that might be traded for a potential superstar trade though, if there is one available.

  7. Jazz - Tyrese Proctor. A combo guard who could start over either THT or Sexton in a team that clearly isn't willing to contend just yet, Proctor seems like a no brainer for Utah who obviously won't need any more big men after trading for JC and already rostering Hendricks, Kessler and Markannen.

  8. Rockets (via Nets) - Izan Almansa. This is also a pick I feel could be traded, since Houston already have a lot of young talent and with the signings of FVV and Brooks, clearly look like they're trying to contend. However, if they do pick a player, Almansa is probably the right choice. We've seen from this year's draft that teams are starting to value defence more and Houston are in need of a backup PF. Almansa fits both requirements.

  9. Spurs (via Raptors) - Aday Mara. A great passing center who reminds me of Jokic lite, or Pau Gasol, he would be a great playmaker and facilitator beside Wembanyama. Most importantly, if Victor does have a reliable jumpshot, a stretch 5 like Collins wouldn't be required to start alongside him; rather a 7'3 playmaking center would make more sense.

  10. OKC - Donovan Clingan. As the year goes on, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go higher up on mock boards, similar to Hendricks and Lively's rise this year. If he does fall to 10 however, OKC should most definitely pick him up. His physicality beside Chet would perfectly hide the latter's physical shortcomings and he could come in and already be a defensive anchor off the bench should OKC choose to continue to let Chet run the 5.
