DEVIN CARTER BREAKDOWN

One of the more NBA ready players in the later part of the first round. Devin Carter is an a good all around players with no glaring flaws in his game. He’s a versatile player on both ends of the floor. While only being 6ft 3 he has the build to play shooting guard thanks to his size but the skill to play some point.

Offensively, I see him being a shooting guard in the NBA. His shooting should give him a role early on. He has good splits and wasn’t only shooting catch and shoot. He didn’t attack a lot of closeouts when I watched, but he has a solid first step and looked fast in the open court so I think he can develop this skill. He has a solid handle but was not super creative with the ball. He drove some but relied a lot on his strength and still didn’t finish consistently. However, he did look good absorbing contact. The reason I mainly see him being a shooting guard is his playmaking. While I don’t think he’s below average as a passer, and he did look good in the pick and roll. The expectation for a junior year point guard as a playmaker is high. He had some bounce passes but out of the pick and roll he didn’t skip pass or manipulate the defense he made a good read most of the time

He’s very versatile on defense for someone who is only 6ft 3. He has a broad frame and moves quickly. He wasn’t disrupting passing lanes but didn’t make many mistakes off ball. If he had better hands he’d be in that next tier of defenders but he didn’t show me too much there. I’m still high on his defense. He was comfortable in the point of attack and maneuvering around screens.

I think he will be a good 3 and D guard. He has a lot of qualities that contribute to winning basketball so I’m comfortable saying he will end being somewhat impactful if he keeps shooting well. The swing factor for me is his driving ability. He’s finding success with it in college bjt he relies a lot on his strength. If he can drive maybe he could start one day, if not I see him still being an above average backup shooting guard.
