Why Memphis Does This: Memphis needs a starting caliber center as Jaren Jackson is not a good enough rebounder to be a full time 5. They get that for their first this year who probably wont even get significant minutes as they wont be a center which is their biggest position of need. The 9th pick is too high for guys like Sarr and Clingan and too low for guys like Missi and Ware. So its just worth getting someone like Poeltl for it straight up. Losing Aldama might be the part that is a bit iffy. If that is not possible, throw in a guy like Zaire Williams or John Konchar

Why Toronto Does This: It looks like Toronto wants to trade into the lottery. They continue this "retool/rebuild" and do just that. They also get playable players in return as well. Overall a dream trade for Toronto if they were (and should) move Poeltl this offseason.
