I have been pretty vocal about my dislike of the Garland/Mitchell duo in Clevleand. They are an undersized backcourt, which hinders them on defense (obviously), but also on offense. Even though both are great shooters, their off-ball ability is severely hindered due to them not being threats to cut. This means that when one runs the offense, all too often the other is simply spotted up on the wing. If Mitchell doesn't ask out, Garland is the obvious choice to go. In this deal Cleveland gets a two really solid role players to plug some of their gaps, along with a first and a second.
A trade like this will also give the Lakers a future after LeBron with a great duo of Garland + AD.
For the sake of the lineups, I will assume that a Brandon Ingram for Jarrett Allen swap has gone down as I have suggested many a time.
Cleveland's lineup:
Donovan Mitchell / Caris LeVert
Max Strus / Austin Reaves
Rui Hachimura / Isaac Okoro
Brandon Ingram / Dean Wade
Evan Mobley / Tristan Thompson (Sign a vet or take a big with their FRP)
I won't even try with the Lakers' lineup projection because who knows what will happen with LeBron and D'lo in free agency. Basically all we need to know is Garland + Davis.
Is Garland's value fair here? I think that Spida is worth Rui, Austin, and 3 UFRPs as in this trade and I think removing two of those picks is fair for Garland. Let me know!
