Brooklyn re-signed Cam Johnson and is extremely wing-heavy with players like Royce O'Neale, Mikal Bridges, Dorian Finney-Smith, Noah Clowney, and Dariq Whitehead. Brooklyn has been linked to Tyler Herro as a third team to facilitate the move of Damian Lillard to Miami, however, it has been hard for this trade to work with the friction between Damian Lillard and the Portland front office on the value of the trade return vs. honoring his trade request strictly to Miami.
Acquiring more guards and playmakers is very important for Brooklyn to acquire. Tyler Herro would be a phenomenal scorer to exist with Mikal Bridges. Duncan Robinson can provide some much-needed perimeter shooting that Joe Harris seems to not be able to produce in the past few seasons prior to being traded to Detroit this past offseason. Kyle Lowry can provide some playmaking and veteran presence defensively that Brooklyn can use in such a young team. Jusuf Nurkic would be great as a big man to exist with Cameron Johnson or Clowney in the frontcourt. Giving up DFS and O'Neale would open up more minutes for Whitehead and Clowney to bring to the team. Lonnie Walker is also on the team and would get an increased role with this team. The reason why Brooklyn gives up 3 first rounders from contending franchises is because they need some to acquire Tyler Herro while also having to give some to get rid of Ben Simmons's atrocious contract and lackluster performance.
Miami could take this trade as this would mean giving up a lot of draft assets while being able to acquire Damian Lillard, a couple switchable wings, and some young guards/wings that could bring the offensive production that Gabe Vincent and Max Strus brought before they left this offseason. Cameron Thomas is a scorer and Miami could consider this a hidden bright spot in giving up so much to acquire Damian Lillard.
There is no way that Portland would reject this trade offer as they not only acquire some young assets and high quality players, they also get more than 5 first rounders with great value for a disgruntled star forcing their leverage. Nicolas Claxton is an excellent replacement for Jusuf Nurkic and can bring a great defensive presence and be a great lob candidate for Scoot Henderson to make plays for. Portland can still bring the most out of Ben Simmons as he can be a great versatile defender while crashing the glass and making occasional plays for Scoot, Shaedon, and Anfernee Simons. Bringing all these wings to the team would be great for this franchise that can bring more defensive impact. Spencer Dinwiddie would be an excellent sixth man that can shoot the ball and make some plays for the bench. Nikola Jovic is a young stretch big that will get the chance to develop in a rebuilding environment for Portland. All the draft assets would be great for Portland to acquire more talent in the draft or in distant future trades for stars to surround Scoot, Shaedon, and Simons.
