The trade between the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, and New Orleans Pelicans makes sense because each team solves a different problem. Cleveland reacts to being swept 4–0 by the New York Knicks by changing direction. They move on from Jarrett Allen and add Herb Jones and Rui Hachimura to get more defense on the wing and more versatility. The Lakers improve their defense and rebounding by getting Jarrett Allen, plus a young big in Yves Missi, fixing their biggest weakness inside. For the Pelicans, I’m not sure they would actually do this trade. Giving up Herb Jones for Dyson Daniels, Knecht, LaRavia, and multiple picks might be too much or just not the direction they want. Overall, it’s a deal where Cleveland retools, the Lakers fix the paint, and the Pelicans’ part is the most uncertain.
