Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal?

Yes. This isn’t complicated on Chicago’s end. Kuminga has superstar potential. The Bulls need to rebuild. They’re trading for a player with star potential.

They’re also trading for Andrew Wiggins. That’s not as simple – Wiggins is underperforming in 2023-24. He’s got a long-term, expensive contract. That shouldn’t deter the Bulls.

They can move him for more value if Wiggins turns his play around. If he doesn’t, they should be taking a long-term view – by the time they need the salary space, Wiggins’ deal will expire. Meanwhile, they’re also picking up an unprotected first. The Warriors are aging, and neither of the players they’re receiving here are young. The Warriors could end up sending Chicago a lottery pick.

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal?

This feels like a no-brainer for the Bulls. That’s less true for the Bulls. They’ve got a losing record, and they’re giving up a player with star potential. Are we sure about this?

No. Still, the idea of inserting Vucevic into their system would have to entice the Warriors. His plus positional passing would enhance their typically elite motion system.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have never put a floor-spacing big like Vucevic alongside Curry – how will opposing teams guard that? Caruso might be the best defensive guard in the NBA. He’ll likely usurp Klay Thompson in the starting lineup. That should make the Warriors a much better team. The only question is whether the Warriors ought to operate on a win-now timeline.
