This trade would also include probably a pick swap in 2024 as well.
For the Blazers, I think its time to finally give up on the dream of getting Dame a championship level roster to compete. But on the other hand Dame isn't a superstar in his prime either. He is 33 and probably has about 3-4 years left in the tank of elite level play. I don't really expect the package to be as massive as some we have seen in recent years but it will be significant none the less.
Portland has reportedly said they will help Dame if it comes to a trade and send him to a destination he likes in the Eastern Conference. I think there are about 4-6 possible destinations in the East for Dame but all require making the team worse by trading for him. The Celtics, Raptors, Philly, and Brooklyn require giving up significant pieces in order to get Dame and I don't think that catapults any of those teams odds to win a finals for the next couple of years.
Miami and Orlando struck me as a couple of teams that just makes sense. Miami would give a package centered around Herro and since they've been on this entire Finals run without him, I think Miami probably has the best chance to trade for him. But on the other hand Orlando is also in sunny Florida and they have a plethora of young talent and draft picks.
Now I get it, if some people are not high on Suggs and Isaac but they are both under 25 and show incredible potential if they can get out onto the court. In addition, the 6th pick in this loaded draft is pretty valuable as well and so is the future unprotected first in 2028 when Dame will be 39 and Franz/Paolo/Carter will need to figure out new contract situations. As for Orlando, they are a destination that doesn't have to make their roster significantly worse in order to bring in Dame and I think that helps their chances a ton. They give up a few picks and a couple of assets that have barely been playing to bring in a proven star for a chance at contending with the young guys the next 2-4 years and expediting the rebuild significantly all while keeping a lottery pick this year.
As for Portland, yes they don't get the proven player in Herro but Suggs still has potential to develop as a very good 2 way PG in this league. The 3rd pick in the draft can become Brandon Miller and they can leapfrog the Pacers and draft either Taylor Hendricks or Jarrace Walker with the 6th pick. The Blazers would be set up for a short rebuild with a roster core consisting of Suggs, Sharpe, Brandon Miller, Hendricks/Walker, Simons and Little. On the other hand, Orlando would be able to compete in the East with a core that includes Dame, Gradey Dick/Hawkins(with the 11th pick), Franz, Paolo, Wendell, Fultz, Nowell, Mo Wagner, Bol Bol and a veteran wing like Jeff Green as well.
I really was thinking on this trade scenario for Dame and this is the second best option outside of Miami that i really like for both teams involved. Let me know what you guys think.
