Why the Suns do this:

The Suns were supposed to be a title contending team this season but they’re currently sitting a game under .500. One of their most glaring issues is at the starting center spot. The Suns need someone young and athletic who can finish at the rim and protect it at the other end. Kessler fits perfectly. Clarkson, although he would likely struggle to find consistent minutes, could provide a good scoring spark off the bench.

Why the Jazz do this:

In return for Kessler and Clarkson, the Jazz get Jusuf Nurkic, a handful of 2nd rounders, and the 2031 FRP from the Suns. They are currently tanking for Flagg, and this move helps them with the rebuilding process. The 2nd rounders the Jazz acquire will realistically be early round because the Suns aren’t going to be good in a couple of years, especially 2031. That also basically guarantees that the 2031 FRP will be a lottery one, meaning the Jazz would draft a lottery player even after having finished rebuilding, setting them up for even more success. As for now, getting Jusuf Nurkic would allow them to start Filipowski and bring Nurk off the bench to develop Filipowski better. Being a veteran big man who has been a solid rebounder and underrated passer, Nurk could also aid in the development of the Jazz’s big men. Nurkic is also former teammates with Drew Eubanks, but that doesn’t really matter so I guess it’s just the cherry on top haha.
