Why Suns do it: playoff woes continue for the suns since they lack the depth and complimentary pieces that will get them over the hump. This deal addresses much of their needs while finally moving on both from Ayton to give him a fresh start elsewhere and using CP3's contract to further enhance the roster.

Why the Pelicans do it: The franchise has finally reached the tipping point with their supposedly franchise player in Zion and decides to pivot in another direction due to setbacks on a year on year basis. This deal gives them the opportunity to net their next franchise player with the #2 pick (and forsure, they will happily get Scoot Henderson with this pick) and also get their franchise big man in Ayton. A homecoming of some sorts for CP3 as well, and he will get the chance to mentor Scoot and also try to be playoff team.

Why the Hornets do it: the Hornets will bank on the idea that their #2 pick turned into Zion (an All-NBA caliber player WHEN HEALTHY) can give them a faster way (and ultimately a higher ceiling than keeping the #2 pick) back onto the path of relevance. Plus the combo of Lamelo and Zion will assuredly be a "box-office" hit as long as both can stay relatively healthy moving forward.
