The Hawks give up two expiring vets and two first round picks for a guy who (though having an off year) has the ability to play at a DPOY level on a championship team.
The Heat would still be fairly competitive with this lineup:
PG Terry Rozier
SG Tyler Herro
SF Haywood Highsmith
PF Julius Randle
C Clint Capela
Mike Conley
Rob Dillingham (who maybe should start over Rozier)
Duncan Robinson
Larry Nance jr
Kelel Ware (who would get more playing time)
Nikola Jovic.
Most importantly this team will have a lot of cap space to work with the next couple years. This team will also be pretty competitive this year as they’ll still have good defense but they’ll also have a true number two scoring option behind Herro which they don’t really have right now. They also get a couple of first out of it.
The Timberwolves do it because they need to upgrade Randle and while this does cost them Dillingham , there’s probably not a place for him in their lineup anyway based on the fact that there hasn’t been to this point. They also lose Conley but he hasn’t been that good this year anyway. Butler would make this team a legit contender even in the difficult western conference.
