The Heat are currently a play-in team with the current core around Butler. Despite the culture of the Heat being to always work hard, it may be time to rebuild this offseason if this squad doesn’t make it past round 1. They have solid young pieces, but some of their guys are getting older by the day, and they need to be capitalized upon while they still can. This series explores the possibilities in a Miami Heat rebuild this offseason.

Why the Knicks do this:

The Knicks have been solid, but they need another piece to become true contenders. Jimmy Butler is the perfect fit here. Butler can coast through the regular season with Brunson and Randle on the roster, and the team will still be solid enough for Jimmy’s usual playoff outburst. I’m of the belief that Butler can be the guy on a championship team, especially with such a solid supporting cast. Barrett becomes redundant with the additions of Butler and Hart, and the Knicks have proven willingness to trade RJ during the first round of KD rumors. They also get off of Fourniers contract here, albeit to take on Butler’s massive deal. Additionally, the picks here stop conveying in 2025, so the Knicks can quickly dive into their own rebuild if needed; they retain flexibility.

Knicks lineup:

Jalen Brunson

Josh Hart

Jimmy Butler

Julius Randle

Isaiah Hartenstein

Why the Heat do this:

If they choose to rebuild, this is likely the best package Miami will be able to find in exchange for Jimmy Butler. RJ Barrett still has star potential and can be the third guy in a future big three with Adebayo and Herro. The Heat also like taking chances on guys like McBride, and they will make great use of all the picks they acquire in order to take on Fournier.

Heat lineup:

Stay tuned for the rest of the Heat rebuild to see the new look roster take shape
