Why do I think the Pistons do this?
Jaden Ivey was having his greatest season before the nasty injury he suffered versus the Orlando Magic. He will be missing some significant time and the Pistons will need additional firepower. Simons, 25, has been inconsistent this season but lately, he's been turning it around. In the last 10 games, the young guard is averaging 20 PPG/6.0 AST/3.0 RBS (rounded off) on 44/35/93 shooting splits. It makes me wonder how much of his inconsistent play is due to having a bad coach and hideous spacing around him. With the Pistons, I think Anfernee will thrive as a secondary creator alongside Cade and will be on the list for one of the top shooters on the team.
Why do I think the Blazers will do this?
Former No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson is currently behind Simons in the rotation, being the sixth man of the team. Does Scoot deserve to start? Probably not, but getting him those reps will help him in the long run. Contrary to popular belief, Henderson is playing much more decently compared to his rookie year. He's controlling the game better and improving his on-ball defense.
For the assets they got from this trade, THJ is a good veteran for this team and is an expiring contract which will be good for Portland's pockets. Klintman has been playing well in the G-League and will be a great addition to the Blazer's forward depth. For the Picks, the 2027 Top 5 protected won't probably turn out to be a good pick because I believe the Pistons will be a playoff team by then but that protection is just in case. Under Cronin, I noticed that he is very fond of 2nd round picks that's why I got him 3 which is probably worth like a late 1st.
