Jay Huff got Traded???? Grading the trade for the Pacers Myles Turner replacement!!!

SUCCESS

This makes a lot of sense but I never even thought about it as a scenario. Huff did not get a lot of gamete last year in the Memphis but was very productive as a player with 52/41/78 splits and a block a game at around 10 mpg. 7'1 and can space the floor and to be honest he has the efficiency makeup and the offensive eye test that reminds me a bit of Myles Turner. His per 36 stats have him 21 points and 2.7 blocks and there's a lot more context to per 36 stats that you can't take this too seriously but there's a real player with a. great eye test and production that you can try buy into with a bigger role. And NO in no way do I think Jay Huff is better or equal to Myles Turner but Jay Huff gives you great shooting from 3 and spaces the court like Turner and plays well at the rim, two of the things that really gravitate you to Turner and what made him such a good player for the Pacers. While Huff hasn't shown that consistently as a player or at a good volume to be considered as good as those things as Turner and the other parts of his game has been underwhelming like the rebounding as a 7'1 player and the fact he's very old for a 4 years experience player, there is a skillset that fits the Pacers system and has been integrated that he can plug into this roster and there's a real pathway to me that you can get great value from him in that role. He ends up being this plug and play player in this system the players know how to maximise the skills of and thats what makes this so intriguing and a feasible route to me. I really like the sound of this. now on to my grades.

Trade Grade Explanation: https://fanspo.com/nba/s/general/p/epTyDdsSXUgNRK/my-trade-grade-rankings-explained

Pacers: B

Read the opening paragraph. I say so much there thats important to what is say here but again your getting a guy with a reminiscent skillset to a main piece in a finals run and while he is in no means going to bring you that same production, he can be utilised in a similar role to make him work and you can do that for 2 long term future seconds which you likely want to use to maximise your current window which you have an your getting him on such a cheap deal of max $9m/3 years that there is little downside to this trade. And in the likely scenario Huff doesn't project to be the solution and ends up as this bench piece then we do know he is able to give great bench piece production on a minimum contract which fits the system and plugs right in without you having to bend how you play and this trade feels great still. You can then just re asses how to find your long term Myles Turner replacement. And that's why I love this trade for them so much, it just makes too much sense as a short term and long term role filler and roster fit that Im already in love with this fit and this trade for them. Top of the range so they get a B.

Grizzlies: B-

And by no means do I think this is bad for Memphis, its key to note that they signed Jock Landale right after this trade and thats a great filler for counting stats and generally a good bench player for your team in the same position and maybe a better fit? You don't particularly want JJ and Huff together that doesn't make much sense to me so long term I didn't quite like that for you. So you replace him with a better fit potentially with the team who gives you what you need positionally and volume wise with a track record to show that for cheap an then you get a couple draft picks to add to their offseason haul, I like that for them and I'd probably do that if I was GM so good stuff for them too!
