Lakers- When LA won the title in 2020, they had depth behind AD to take the burden off of him. This year, they have little depth behind AD. Jonas gives them a great backup center who can space the floor and provide a scoring punch. They give up low value players and picks with low risk to acquire him. It’s a low risk high reward move that could pay high dividends for the Lakers.
Wizards- Let’s be real here, the Wizards aren’t gonna contend. Jonas is an older player who really has no place here. This way, the Wizards offload him for 2 decent second round picks and a protected pick which should land somewhere in the teens. Decent value for Jonas. Also, all of the players they get are on expiring contracts so the cap space wouldn’t be a problem. They also signed Jonas in FA so really they’re getting this for free since they didn’t give up anything for him. Overall, a good move to help the Wizards rebuild.
