Ranking landing spots for James Harden

SUCCESS

Hypothetical trade I made, don't really care about the value at the moment

Harden has about minimal value for a star player to me, he's imploded three teams, he's not a good defender, and is a difficult player to play around with his ball dominant style. However, these are places he's been rumored to potentially go, and how likely I think any potential trade is.

  1. LAC

Obvious one, though the Clippers' desire not to give Terrance Mann obviously holds things up. Los Angeles is the place Harden is most likely to show up, and I think Kawhi and PG have enough capacity to play off the ball for Harden to get into pick and rolls and be the primary ball handler. The Russ fit is something to question however.

Projected offer (if Clippers come to their senses)

Mann, Morris, Covington ...

  1. TOR

Toronto is a team that I think could actually shake things up in the Harden trade rumors just like they did for Dame. They may ultimately come up short like they did with Lillard, but this time Harden has much less trade value and thus they're very unlikely to give any of their core players in a potential deal (Pascal, OG, Scottie Barnes). I feel like the Raptors could throw an offer of Gary Trent, a filler in Chris Boucher and be 100% ok with it, along with possibly a pick. Harden would give them a playmaking point guard to replace FVV. Although I have some reservations about Harden in a scheme with not elite shooting, and his fit with Pascal, I think Masai should think about it.

  1. CHI

Chicago would be getting rid of Zach LaVine while Harden would be rerouting to a third team (MIA) would splash up the league for sure, which is why I have Chicago so high up in these rankings. I think that potential framework is extremely interesting, but it's also very likely Chicago remains steadfast in their desire to rebuild.

  1. MIA

Harden is a monumental risk for us, especially considering his fit with the culture is very questionable, and the fact he's also on an expiring deal. However, Harden can also give us some real creation. One thing to get out of the way: not giving up Tyler Herro. Harden's value is so low that's not going to happen. However, he would be an upgrade over Kyle Lowry and potentially a risk worth taking.

  1. NOP

Harden for CJ would be quite interesting, however I don't believe the Pelicans should do this. CJ is more equipped to be playing off ball, and Harden is on an expiring contract. CJ has three more years left, which guarantees Zion will have an All-Star caliber guard in his backcourt.

  1. T-Wolves

T Wolves would be doubling down on their roster construction in a Harden trade, and I think James would find it mildly interesting going to Minnesota. However, I'm not sure Mike Conley is something that would appeal to Philadelphia unless they want cap space for next summer.

  1. Suns

Suns have been thrown around in complicated trades to get harden, which would make them possibly the worst defensive and best offensive teams in recent NBA history. I have them lower because it just doesn't make sense to me.

  1. NY

New York is a questionable fit for me since I don't like at all the fit with Brunson, Randle, and Harden, who all need the ball in their hands and I don't envision them thriving next to each other.

  1. UTA

Utah getting a star player somehow has been thrown around, but I don't see it with Harden because (a) very little chances he would report and (b) don't see the Jazz giving up too many of their young assets to get an expiring in James Harden. It might be a fun idea, but neither side would be all in on it.

  1. Nets

The Nets reconciling with Harden has been thrown around but I can't see it happening. Not even sure Harden would agree to report, and Nets shouldn't squander any assets to get Harden.
