Lakers - it’s clear the best kind of role players on a LeBron James led team are bigger wings that can defend multiple positions and shoot 3’s, and Finney-Smith fits that bill perfectly. while he isn’t as good as his Dallas days, he’s still a very capable role player. note - Christian Wood can be substituted for Cam Reddish or Jaxson Hayes if either of them accept their player option*
Nets - the Nets missed their window on Finney-Smith’s prime trade value, but it’s not too late to undo that mistake. the Nets don’t have any picks in this years draft, and with them headed towards a slower team build, getting a first round pick this year would be handy. taking on Gabe Vincent’s multi-year deal isn’t ideal, but Brooklyn does need a backup PG with Dennis Smith Jr entering free agency, and he plays well they can flip him for additional assets. Christian Wood is here purely as salary filler.
Knicks - it has never been Tom Thibbedeu’s style to play rookies, so it’s pretty clear New York shouldn’t be wanting to make multiple first round selections. here they trade both their firsts for pick #17, moving them up 7 spots while also getting a future 2nd round pick in exchange. they can grow and develop whoever they pick at #17, without having to worry about developing multiple first round guys
