The Lakers get off of long bad term salary. The Nets make a low risk/medium award move on Anthony Davis.

When the Lakers miss the playoffs, I see Lebron and possibly d-LO leaving in Free Agency and this would them with some cap space, but not much. For a team that likely one of the worst teams in the NBA at that point, they would need to clear up as much cap space as possible and this trade does exactly that. They get off of AD awful contract and get a expiring Ben Simmons. As for the Nets, they get one step closer towards being a playoff team. Due to how low AD trade value is, they would still have all of their 1st round picks and young players to use in a trade to get a real all star level player(like Donovan Mitchell or Trae Young for example), which could very make them a contender.
