In this trade, Ben Simmons is traded to Orlando in exchange for Jonathan Isaac and Terrence Ross, along with cap holds to fill the salary. Neither Isaac nor Ross really fits the Magic timeline anymore, and Isaac has major injury concerns. These two are probably not viewed as major assets to the Magic with the rise of their young core. They would fit great with the Nets who, as a team looking to contend, will value (uncertain but likely still well above average) interior defense from Isaac, and a veteran shooter in Ross who provides a bit more size at the 2 and 3 than their current wings. The Magic, as a rebuilding team, should be willing to take a relatively low-cost, high-reward gamble on Simmons who at best could be their Center of the Future. Many of my Realistic Kevin Durant trades would actually require Simmons to be traded to be completed, and this is a solid package that could help get additional solid assets while clearing the way for a KD trade.
