CLT: sells high on LaMelo to allow flex to build around Brandon Miller as the future-forward prototype 3-d. LaMelo is great, but he's proven to not be durable enough to carry a team, hence better fit alongside established stars/scorers LBJ/AD (CLT is removing financial risk of LaMelo missing more chunks of season from running around like a chicken with head cut off trying to constantly spark CLT offense; Tre Mann is also breaking out on cheap contract as a much more physical/durable pg in the DSmithJr mold). CLT welcomes durability of AReaves and CLT can afford another short-term tryout for DRussell, with Gabe a reliable backup.
LAL: welomed increased backcourt footspeed/production of LaMelo (L.A. native son) not breaking the bank, add salary dump of Gabe, removal of (especially playoff) inconsistency of DRussell/AReaves.
Bottom line: neither LAL or CLT is a championship contender in current form (CLT just got waxed twice by BOS; LAL just lost to DET), hence this shakeup opens new avenues for both clubs.
