Buddy Hield is a guy that I want to see play with Luka Doncic. He is an excellent 3-point shooter and he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be successful or impactful. Those are the players Dallas should have around Luka. The front office has already done a good job at doing this, but it still isn’t enough for Dallas to be taken seriously in the playoffs by a team like Golden State. Buddy Hield isn’t going to lift Dallas to much greater heights, but he will be a great addition to the team and will help Dallas be better equipped for a playoff run.

I’m on the fence about this trade for Indiana. It makes sense for them to trade Buddy Hield right now, but this return package has me thinking. Davis Bertans is a bad contract, but the money Indiana would have to give him next year is non-guaranteed. So essentially, Indiana is clearing up more cap space with this trade. Bennedict Mathurin would be able to start now with Buddy Hield out of the picture. Josh Green is a throw in for cap space purposes, but he is still a younger player. That may give him so value to the Pacers. I doubt anyone other than the Lakers would give a first round pick for Buddy Hield, so Dallas sends them a second round pick instead. It seems like a solid return for Hield, but there is one other factor in play. The Lakers, if they finally come to their senses and trade Russ, would be able to put together the best package for Hield. If that offer is on the table for Indiana they would certainly accept that trade over this offer by Dallas.

I am unsure of some components of this trade, but I believe that it is still an interesting idea to think about.
