First big trade of FA and its off to a bang, the Nuggets had been rumoured to be moving away from MPJ for a while now and this feels like the perfect replacement where your able to cut a tonne of salary of around $17m and access the majority of your NTMLE meanwhile your getting a similar player stylistically so your system continues to run efficiently. Meanwhile the Nets get a super valuable 2032 Denver pick and someone in MPJ who can easily slide into the team and aim to play up his value and if he doesn't you don't care since you don't want to be competitive so its a win win in my eyes. lets get in to the grades...

Nuggets: B+
Salary movement and cap manipulation is an extremely important part of modern NBA success as we continue to see grow in the NBA and one of the only teams that seemed to be stuck In cap hell and needed additions was the Denver Nuggets and they solved both issues. Cam Johnson's a similar level of NBA player with a much cheaper deal who fits in the empty MPJ slot so it's a perfect system match to me. Now you get that extra $9m to spend using the NTMLE, numbers haven't released but Bruce Brown has reunited with the Nuggets. I love this for them, just great GM move to free that space up and get a similar player that works. Meanwhile that pick could come back to haunt them. I mean 2032 is a long way away who knows what they look like, if Jokic is still there or not and even if he is he is 7 years older. So its risky but again you have Jokic you have to make win now moves and this is a perfect short term move for them right now.
Nets: B
And I really like this for the Nets man, MPJ is still a great talent no matter the cost and they got such a valuable pick for them. people will say Nuggets clearly want this but each of them got a valuable package for what they gave up in terms of their situation. Simply Cam Johnson isn't valuable to the Nets on his own so getting this first and taking MPJ back is smart since its a similar level player with experience to play off their young guys and you can play up that value and try get more back. Loving this move for them too. the contract does effect their versatility in FA but im fine with it if they add that pick that they did!
