Hot off the press, news just arrived that the San Antonio Spurs have Traded for Kelly Olynyk, This makes so much sense as a deal for the Spurs, looking at their depth chart and I will go further in depth into this but I do want to say that there likely is not going to be too many of these left, there is going to be a whole week where I will have to catch up on all the trades if we do even get anything but many of the big movers are gone and there's not really a player who has a foot out the door we expect to be traded, only players with rumours who many believe they can be. So at some point in the end of the season we will get a conclusive list ranking each teams return in each trade based off each grade and you can see what teams I thought made the best trades and got the most value out their talents this offseason. Im looking forward to it. Let's get to the grading!
Grade Explanation Post: https://fanspo.com/nba/s/general/p/epTyDdsSXUgNRK/my-trade-grade-rankings-explained
Spurs: B-
This deal made a lot of sense, just generally the Spurs needed another guy with center size to be some type of third center on the rotation and what I do like about Olynyk is there is a decent level of versatility for which he can play at the 4 and alongside the other centers on the roster. This allows for some funky schemes and plays that the Spurs can get really creative with to make effective offence and defence, some very very interesting rotations. However I just do not believe the Olynyk see's that much game time on the team where I believe this is going to be a high impact trae and really is jut what it looks like at face value which is a depth trade. Olynyk is a very high level 3rd center and is a great guy to get for the role, it wasn't a steal but it certainly wasn't too expensive and I think this is a good trade and one I likely do.
Wizards: C
The Wizards continue to get younger, the reason I would appreciate that the Wizards maybe kept Olynyk around is that I would be surprised if he wins them too many games, i'm not particularly interested in any of the guys you brought back and I believe you already have a treasure trove of picks in the second round next year so im not totally digging it. you could have used Olynyk and maybe improved his value to get a little more but it isn't such a bad trade where I care that much about this value etc. It just is a team trying to get young assets in a rebuilding phase and it feels likeable very lateral value and direction move so yeah a C.
