For Memphis, Jalen Green is probably more of a bridge piece than a long-term franchise cornerstone. There's a good chance he only spends a year with the team before being moved again in another trade. However, he's currently in a much better place than Ja Morant both physically and mentally, which reduces a lot of the risk. Memphis could also target Peterson with the 3rd pick in the draft, giving them another high-upside young talent to build around.

For Phoenix, it's definitely a risk, but it's the kind of move contenders have to make. Ja Morant gives them a legitimate superstar point guard, allowing Devin Booker to move back to his natural shooting guard position. The Suns also don't have many draft picks left, so acquiring an established star is often more valuable than waiting on future assets. If Ja returns to his best level, Phoenix instantly raises its championship ceiling.
