De'Aaron Fox trade that makes some sense

SUCCESS

Fanspo logo

We all know how terrible Fox was in the playoffs and especially in the Finals. If I was the Spurs, I would look to trade him.

The Spurs have also been interested in Trey Murphy III for a while, but they have to pay the price (multiple FRPs and SRPs). Part of that is to get off Fox's contract. San Antonio also gets Malik Monk who can be the 6th man scorer off the bench because Harper would move up to the starting lineup in this hypothetical. Yves Missi also gets a new opportunity and is an upgrade of Luke Kornet to back up Wemby.

The Pelicans get off a bad contract of their own and send Jordan Poole and 2 SRPs to the Kings. The Kings send De'Andre Hunter back in return. New Orleans gives a chance to De'Aaron Fox and is an upgrade over Poole. I would expect Dejounte Murray to be shopped around after this deal, but he doesn't have to.

The Kings get some draft capital for taking on Poole and they can help rehabilitate his trade value, while getting off 2 not great contracts (Hunter, Monk).

The Hawks join in on the trade to get off Corey Kispert and that will require pick #23 (similar to the Porzingis/Terance Mann trade in 2025). They do get Herb Jones to add to a strong wing rotation in Atlanta, strengthening their defense. They also take a flier on guard Devin Carter from the Kings.

Spurs new Starting Lineup: PG: Harper SG: Castle SF: Vassell PF: Murphy III C: Wembanyama 6th man: Champagnie or Monk

Pelicans new Starting Lineup: PG: Fox SG: Murray (if they keep him) / Fears SF: Hunter PF: Zion C: Queen
