boost in chemistry and media for the hornets. a pass first pg in lonzo who can also play sg. i would start them both at 1-2 if they are both healthy.. only because tre mann, josh green, nick smith jr, kj simpson, and then like a seth curry, would be better efficient bench minutes than lonzo coming off the bench. the passing of those 2, linked with miles bridges, brandon miller, mark williams, and a developing tidjane would be insane.. We are so stacked with potential at guards, we only have to look forward to securing a power forward, a defensive forward or back up center etc. theres no pressure in rushing our pf or back up center.. we didnt get grant williams as a long term presence at forward, i think it was more so convenience of having an enforcer vet from nc come back and fill our voids. but the pieces are in place to start stacking our pieces up and building legit playoff contending team with this young core. We have the potential to look like a thunder or pacers team in the playoffs, but with way more offensive potentials in the next 4 years.
now the bulls win this because they actually get a first round pick for lonzo and get off of him considering he wants to leave anyways. now he wants to leave to the west coast or the hornets, and thats the obvious part, but the only option this season on contract is a trade with the hornets, if the bulls force free agency on lonzo, he will sign with charlotte and the bulls get nothing. this type of trade will happen in some way, with varrying draft picks or contracts.
now micic is the prime contract to target for playoff contending teams and is also a solid facilitator in general, so bulls could move micic to another team or give him tons of minutes and then move him next season to a playoff team who needs a back up, and teams will love his conract for 1 year 8m.
now cody is not so exciting for the bulls, but its so lucky that the contract amount and length fit the needed spot for the rebuild path they are on. he will be a solid bench player but have little to no future for the bulls, he just hasa good contract to work for teams rebuilding just like micic. then the first rounder is icing.
hornets doing this allows them to secure lamelo, who is arguably the best pg in the nba rn, and then they can just work up from here... literally if they make this move, the only thing the hornets have to do is build more chemistry and develop or pick up big lengthy strong defensive minded forwards or back up center. i really like nick richards and we should keep him, but i think other teams wouldnt mind paying him a little more. i like how tdjane is developing but hes not ready for that defensive assignment and paint dominance, just a bit immature, but is going to be like a nick batumm with way more paint presence in the future.
so we need to save money for brandon milelr and pay him whatever max is . and then we need to target role players... -i would target naz reid heavy -ben simmons for very cheap and make it very clear we play him as a pf and center in small transition lineups ( i know this is a hot take, but with talent surrounding him, you could get more from ben simmons) -if we move grant willaims or miles bridges etc, you can target jonathan kuminga and tbh he would be the best fit beside brandon miller in defensive assignments, right under mark williams or nick richards, but i dont think we will be able to afford kuminga.
basically getting lonzo ball unironically makes the hornets a playoff team just by being present. it makes no sense because lonzo hasnt proved himself yet in the nba to be that player to guide a team to the playoffs, but playing with his little brother could open that potential.
theres a lot of options, but the main focus is to get through this trade season without ruining our core, or draft picks, and then after dumping all these bad contracts in trades and or letting them run out in the next 3 seasons, we will have all the potential in the world with arguably the best core to build around in the younger generation. lonzo, miller, mark, nick, lonzo, tre mann, nick smith jr, tidjane, josh green.
