This is an odd-feeling path to solving both teams’ problems:

For the Knicks, Ben Simmons is a massive upgrade at PG and can become a defensive anchor on the wing. Compared to last year’s roster, he represents a similar style of PG to Elf (lacking shooting with size and the ability to get to the rim) with the ability to be an upgrade over Reggie on the defensive end. Even further, the addition of Ben may allow Thibs to play IQ as a starting 2, given Ben’s size and ability to guard all wing positions.

For Philly, this deal adds a lot of perimeter shooting and playmaking to complement the 6ers’ strong defensive options. With Ben not playing, Kemba and Fournier can provide an immediate upgrade to the rotation with picks and the ability to move Mitch providing greater long-term value.
