Knicks can sign precious to whatever they want(below the second apron) so signing precious to this amount allows the Knicks to take back less money then they r sending out making them not capped at the first apron.

Why Knicks do it: front court depth. WCJ plays the 5, is a good defender, and can shoot a bit. Idk if he or Mitch would start but they’d likely get very even minutes. WCJ is still a good(if not great) rebounder and defender and the ability to stretch the floor(once again he’s not great but a solid spacer) would give the Knicks more offensive options. McBride will struggle for playing time on both these teams, but maybe more so on the Knicks w the likes of Donte and Mikal in front of him. Thibs may also work his magic on Wendell and then him from good to great defensively similar to ihart

Magic just get more assets. McBride doesn’t fit their team great due to the young guard depth they already have, but adding a first, some seconds, and a valuable young piece while getting rid of one of their 4 center options is a pretty good return(including 3 of which they just signed). Precious can also improve and surprise or they could prob swap him to another team for some seconds.

Depending on what the magic value wcj for this is a win win for both teams.
