3 team trade: Knicks get Johnson and Daniels, Pelicans get Grimes and picks, Spurs get IQ and picks

SUCCESS

I'm revisiting a recent trade of mine and adding a new wrinkle to it. I really love IQ and Grimes on the Knicks but I also feel like both of their times are numbered. IQ didn't receive an extension and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season and as I've said multiple times, he wants (and deserves) starter money but you don't pay starter money to a backup PG. Grimes has been gradually pushed out by DDV and Hart who Thibs likes to play more and who the Knicks recently signed to affordable deals. Plus, they're part of the Villanova contingent with Brunson so it's unlikely they'll be traded. Simply put, the Knicks have too many guards and need more size, both on the second unit and on the first.

Knicks: The Knicks get Keldon Johnson who's a solid wing who is young, on a reasonable contract and puts up solid numbers. He can slot in at the 3 which moves RJ to his preferred 2 spot as well. He has a plus wingspan and is a solid defender. They also get Dyson Daniels who can either be their new backup PG (sorry Deuce) or he has the size to even fill in as a backup 3 or 4. He's still on his rookie contract for a couple more seasons so they have time to have him develop or flip him.

Spurs: I've gone over this before but the main weakness of this Spurs team is the lack of a proper PG. IQ is a starter quality PG who's proven himself on both ends of the floor and fits the timeline of this Spurs team. They are reportedly open to moving Johnson and they don't give up any other young players either. They can either flip Fournier or decline his option and let him go next season so he's not taking up any long term salary. They get a couple of FRPs and a second rounder as well to increase their stockpile.

Pelicans: This is the hardest case to make because Daniels was the 8th pick for the Pelicans a couple of seasons ago. But they do need a good defender who can also space the floor. Jones is a great defender but not a great shooter and the same goes for a lot of their backups. Daniels doesn't have a huge role in their rotation and they may be better served having a young 3 and D player like Grimes who can space the floor and guard the opposing teams best player. They also get a couple of FRPs to continue their stockpile and give them more options.
