Could do a longer message about this scenario, but essentially, after the Bridges trade, the Knicks are hard capped at the first apron because they’re taking in more money. To help get them out of the hard cap, the Wizards jump in and throw in Johnny Davis as part of the Bridges deal to help the Knicks get out of the hard cap for the 1st apron to become a 2nd apron team, which could allow them to re-sign Isaiah Hartenstein. Knicks would also throw in Diakite as another minimum guy to give Brooklyn. Both Diakite and Johnny Davis will help a ranking Brooklyn team tank harder.
In return, the Wizards get Mitchell Robinson, who they had garnered interest in this summer. Robinson goes to Washington to become their Center/Backup Center to anchor their defense with Alex Sarr.
And with these trades, the Knicks can trade for Bridges without being hard capped at the first apron, re-sign OG to the contract that he just got (minus the 5th year because Fanspo isn’t recognizing the 5th year), and re-sign Isaiah Hartenstein to his max offer from the Knicks. DaQuan Jeffries is also a casualty, as the Knicks will have to decline his contract in order to stay slightly under the 2nd apron. However, with the rookies they just drafted like Dadiet, Kolek, and McCullar, DaQuan might not have gotten minutes anyway.
But what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
