My Laker Offseason ( Read Notes )

SUCCESS

Just first things first....

  • Resign LeBron on a 1+1 deal at 42M Slightly discounted to keep LA below the second apron.

  • Resign DFS to a 3 year 39M deal. Long term deal at slight discount.

Trade 1: LA gets: Poeltl TOR gets: Holmes / Knecht / 2031 FRP WAS gets: Vincent / Shake / SRP via. TOR

LA addresses the center issue by bringing in Poeltl. Jakob provides excellent interior presence at 7ft. He's a solid defender and rebounder who'd quickly address the frontcourt issues for LA. He isn't the vertical spacer that would be ideal next to Luka but he still presents a fundamentally sound PNR option who has great touch around the basket.

Toronto moves off a player who doesn't quite their timeline. Gets expiring filler to act as a placeholder, a FRP from LA and an interesting prospect in Dalton Knecht.

Washington gets a free second for facilitating the trade.

Trade 2: LA gets: Kyle Anderson MIA gets: Kleber / 2025 SRP

Anderson hasn't been as impactful compared to previous seasons but that may largely be due to fit. He was largely a non factor in the postseason against the Cavs this season but may be more impactful in a new role. On LA, he'd be of immense value. His large wingspan would make him the team's most impactful backcourt defender and is an excellent rebounder as well. High iq players also tend to play well next to LeBron and Kyle will be no exception. He can guard multiple positions and can hit an open three. I think he'd regain his form here in LA.

Miami gets expiring money and a second. Kleber can give utility as a larger floor spacer who can play the 4 and the 5 at spurts next to Bam. If he isn't being productive, he will have value as salary filler at the deadline for Miami to bring in a more impactful asset. A second doesn't hurt either.

FA signings:

  • Capela on the Taxpayer MLE. Could give great minutes as a backup big. Solid lob threat for Luka

  • Prince provides some additional shooting on the roster. Decent frame as well

  • Team has bird rights on Hayes. Could bring him back on a 2yr deal with a team option on the second year. Just an additional big for the rotation and salary fodder should a midseason trade open up.

  • Melton is an interesting one

He had a phenomenal start to the season for Golden State but did suffer a season ending injury before getting traded. Fully healthy, he's easily worth the NTMLE. However his market may now be limited to the TPMLE. The Lakers maay get outbid for him but they do provide Melton a unique opportunity. He slots in perfectly as a three level scoring guard that is also a solid defender. If Melton preforms, he can play himself into a much larger contract next season. If Melton wants the money, some other team could give it to him. But a great opportunity and potential for a larger deal down the road? No place better than LA.

Final Rotation:

Starters: Luka / Anderson / Rui / LeBron / Poeltl

Bench: Melton / Reaves / Vando / DFS / Capela
