Why the Lakers do it: Simple. In desperate need of a dynamic shot creator and scorer to complement their stars, they flip two role players and young prospects for a premier scoring threat. Losing Rui and Max Lewis isn’t ideal, but it’s a small price for a talent like Lavine, especially when you’re in win-now mode. Craig helps soften the blow of losing Rui to some degree.
Why the Bulls do it: They found their stride as a team with Lavine out. This deal with Shamet’s expiring and two rookie contracts relieves them of Lavine’s long term money and saves them over $11M from their cap sheet in the short term. Rui slots right in as a big 6’8 forward they’ve been sorely lacking in their roster for years and also fits the timeline of their young pieces. Max Lewis is a hyoer athletic wing who flashed three level scoring in his two years at Peoperdine. Hood-Schfino can develop into a solid pg with size.
Why the Wizards do it: Two second round picks and an expiring contract for a scoring guard in DLo who if nothing else will be a valuable expiring contract to flip this summer for more assets, or a young piece that fits long term. A no-brainer deal for them.
