Probably Blazers wouldn’t agree, but according to Johan Buha they set Camara’s value as two firsts (in this trade they get Knecht + a swap + a 1st which is more than 2 firsts).
And as they already got 2 good centers (Williams and the rookie Clingan) I would rather get Vando (as a replacement of Camara in a decent deal), Kleber (expiring probably negative value actually but they might just waive him) and Vincent (decent PG expiring which might help them or they could trade for something like 2 seconds in the deadline) than Ayton for 35M which is clearly not part of their future.
And for the Lakers this is just a steal, Camara is perfect fit for Luka in the long term in a rookie contract, and Ayton is not worth 35M but Lakers need desperately a center and he’s a lob threat and also a good fit for Luka, and if it works they might be able to extend his contract on a cheaper deal.
As I said before I wouldn’t do that if I was Portland because I think Camara is worth more than that and is part of the future of this young defensive minded team, but if Portland actually thinks that he’s worth just two firsts this is a no brainer for LA.
