Everyone can see including Coach Reddick that Luka's body is not in "championship shape". Also there is a component to championship shape that people don't talk about enough and it's mental toughness. Luka literally complains almost every possession on offense and defense. He is always on the ground from the slightest of fouls. Looking up, gasping for air, saliva popping out of his mouth, grunting, taking his time to get up like an old man, while looking like he is telling himself this is too much work. I should just QUIT BASKETBALL!
I don't think Luka's body will hold up well over the next 7-8 years. I felt the same about AD from the way he constantly seemed like something different was always ailing him. Unfortunately I was right and many of Lebron's prime Lakers years were wasted due to AD's unavailability.
In this trade the Lakers get Trae Young and a defensive juggernaut in Dyson with growing offensive capabilities. The 2025 Most Improved Player. You also get to keep Austin Reaves in this trade. While adding a second piece to increase the Lakers playoff playable depth.
Atlanta does the deal because the Trae Yound experiment seems to have run its course with rumors of the team not feeling comfortable with extending him for 60mm per year. Also Hawkss already have many young 6'8" and above players to surround Luka with defensively while already having an in-house athletic lob catching rim running big that Luka loves. ATL also gets to add Dalton Knecht to the stable and run and gun.
Lastly, the Hawks get to right their wrong by having International Luka lead the team like he should've been doing since he was drafted in 2018!
