Why the Lakers do it:
This is pretty obvious but they need to get more Atlethic on the perimeter and just have more defensive pieces to realistically compete for a championship. Although Herb is having some what of a down year offensively, He still brings everything the Lakers need defensively. Highsmith also brings some defensive help while bringing solid 3 point shooting which the Lakers also need.
Why Pelicans might do it:
They've pretty much been dog shit this season and I do think they need to start off loading some of their players for a rebuild.Rui is nowhere near herb defensively but he's still a really good peice.A 46% 3pt shooting player is the type of player you would want to put next to Zion. Dalton can also be a really good 3pt shooter that can shoot the lights out any given night. Although Dalton isn't the same as last season and his trade value has gone down, taking a shot at a young player with upside will never hurt.
Why the nets do it: Highsmith is a solid 3&d vet that doesn't really have a reason to be on this nets roster. Getting two 2nd round picks and a decent vet in Kevon Lonney is definitely a profit from what they gave up for Highsmith in the first place.
The Lakers lineup after the trade:
Luka-Reaves-Herb-Bron-Ayton
Smart-Highsmith-aduo-Jake-Hayes
That is easily one of the best lineups in the league and they'll be ready to go chase banner 18.
