Thoughts?

SUCCESS

I had this random idea come up, thought it was pretty interesting, and thought I'd get my ideas down about it.

For LA:

You land a center for the next 2-3 seasons. Gobert transforms your interior presence immediately; you have one of the best rebounders, shot blockers, and post defenders in the league. LA would just be a much more imposing interior defense, and more size down low would help match the physicality of teams like OKC and San Antonio. The biggest weakness in Gobert's game is his offense or lack thereof. It is a pressing issue regarding his limitations, but assuming that Luka, AR, and LeBron are back, having multiple high-level playmakers on the court at the same time, which he didn't have in either Minny or Utah, could help him get much easier looks. There's a world where he's just LA's rim runner on offense, and fortress wall on defense.

For Minnesota:

Really like this for the wolves too. Losing Gobert sucks, but the flexibility they get by moving off of his contract is a real plus. Porter Jr is a real asset, I think he slots very well next to Ant and McDaniels. The Wolves got destroyed by San Antonio because of their lack of offensive firepower. Having a knockdown shooter like MPJ, who has also really developed his dribbling game, should help that Minnesota offense improve. I also think they have the defensive pieces to bear the loss of losing Gobert. Ayton can act as a stopgap center for the time being and was fairly effective in the regular season for LA. These contracts could ride the season with Minny or can be packaged again and shopped at the deadline if they want to big game hunting. Having a 40M expiring in Porter can help Minny become far more competitive in deals they otherwise would have a hard time building because of how their contracts were structured. Shoutout Divo but after his injury, doubt he'll return the same player.

For Brooklyn:

No way MPJ stays beyond the season unless you overpay, and if you do, he turns into a negative asset, which would be harder to shop. Turning him into a far-out Laker first could be a solid move, especially as Luka would be 32 by then. Who knows if he's on the Lakers or not, and what the supporting cast looks like. With San Antonio and OKC still young and very much in the mix, its likley that LA may not be as competitive as you would think by the time that year turns around. Those Knicks picks Brooklyn acquired will probably amount to nothing as the Knicks look unstoppable in a conference that is getting weaker and weaker. Going for a long move play could work out for them pretty well. Could do another version or alteration of this where LA also sends the 26th pick this year to Brooklyn and have the nets toss in a pair of seconds if it feels like Vando and a first is not enough value.
