Baylor Bears Game Breakdown vs Virginia

I realize this is a day late, I forgot to post it

Baylor’s comeback at the end gave me hope, but Virginia built too much of a lead off of hot shooting by Franklin. Slow rotations by Baylor caused arman to get lots of seperation and he got hot. Bad turnovers and poor decision making made baylor lose significant momentum on offense.

Hard hedge P&R coverage by Virginia was working amazingly for the most part, two nice plays happened. Keyonte looked like an NBA vet splitting the hedge and kicking it out for an open three and Flo Thamba made a nice play out of short roll. However, short roll is definitely not a spot Thamba is familiar with or adept at. If Baylor had a big that could shoot/pass/dribble we would be amazing (I miss Matthew Mayer)

Flagler’s defense still isn’t good but at least he’s trying, he’s getting down into stance a lot and is staying with his man, but he’s not super strong or laterally quick,

Keyonte looked great on defense at the beginning of the game, when he was locked in. Super quick feet, high motor, suffocating on ball defense and advanced off ball reads but it all slipped away after he came out and got complacent.

Virginia was playing aggressive sufffocating defense against Baylor and forcing them far outside the three point line, often forcing Baylor to run their dribble handoffs near the logo. Twice I remember they couldn’t get a good shot and had to take logo threes

Baylro’s press was extremely ineffective, Virginia broke it almost every time. However, they recovered well. There were no easy layups because of the press but they didn’t get any steals off of it either

I had a thought after watching the game, would a reasonable comp for Keyonte George be Anthony Edwards? Amazing rim pressure, strong frame, amazing on defense BUT ONLY WHEN LOCKED IN.
