Welcome to the Chaos Mock 2.0, run by SchlenkSystem and myself! After the chaos caused by Adam Silver previously, the league began to continue to decline in TV ratings! So, the Commissioner did what any reasonable person would do.
He hacked the U.S. Government’s weather control system and caused a multitude of disasters to hit NBA stadiums across the U.S.
While that may have lost the league billions of dollars in value, Silver has a plan that will surely shoot up TV ratings and lead the league to success (and money) never seen before.
With all of the league’s stadiums gone, teams have to share different stadiums around the country! When this decision was made, the Commissioner also mixed up those teams’ rosters!
And, just like in the first Chaos mock, the Commissioner will require a team to trade their best player away! But not only their #1 option, their top 2 players must be traded. If not, they are released to free agency.

Marketing System:
In another attempt to make money back from the weather chaos, Commissioner Silver introduced a revolutionary hands-on technique for GMs to market their product.
The start of our marketing system allows you to make choices on what your team promotes. Choose one option out of the two for the 4 prompts below.
Promote Existing Team Brand or Promote City Culture
Promote Past Success or Looking Towards the Future
Promote Team Stars or Overall Team Play
Attack City-Sharing Team’s Fanbase or Attack Players/Team
The success of your choices will be affected by your city’s tendencies, so be aware of that when making your selections.
—————————————————————————
Other than making choices on what you market, there is a system that helps you choose how you market. On each of the three items below…
Ticket Cost
Concessions Cost
Merchandising Cost
… you will set a level for the price of each. Low pricing is worth 15 focus coins, moderate pricing is worth 30 focus coins, and high pricing is worth 45 focus coins. The focus coins you earn will be spent between 3 different forms of team promotion.
Social Media Promotion: # of Focus Coins
TV/Radio Advertisements: # of Focus Coins
Billboard/Newspaper Advertisements: # of Focus Coins
The more focus coins invested, the more focus on that marketing form, and the more marketing in general.
Note that while setting prices, going higher may drive fans away and actually hurt your marketing success. But, some markets will pay whatever prices if the team is good enough or if the market is wealthy. Once again, just like what you promote, invest in how you promote based on your market’s tendencies. There will be a panel of 5 judges (users) who do not have a team in the mock who will decide the effectiveness of team marketing. They will take into account the team direction, the marketing investments made, and the tendencies of a market that would determine how attendance and team popularity would play itself out in real life.
These judges will include the mock founders, but sign ups are available for 3 spots. These judges will rank all contending teams and all rebuilding teams based on marketing success seperately. They will also decide which team did better than their same-city opposition. These rankings will be reflected on the end-of-mock polls and can heavily influence voting.
Judge Sign Up:
1: SchlenkSystem
2: RunCMC
3: HistericalChees
4:
5:
The top ranked team in marketing out of the 15 for the contending and rebuilding brackets respectively will get a bye to the quarterfinals in the polling. If more users choose to compete then rebuild, say 18 contend and 12 rebuild, byes will be adjusted accordingly and would stay based on the marketing rankings. Polling will be explained more in depth soon.
FREE AGENCY/DRAFT:
Just like in the last mock with all the players moving teams, the salary cap has been abolished. Each team is given 100 coins in free agency to sign players. The max you can offer a player is 50 coins. You have to give them a very convincing pitch to join your team. If you don’t give reasoning of why they should join, they probably will turn your offer down. Also, if two teams have tied in bidding, a player will choose based on the best pitch.
This is how you offer players:
Number of years, # of coins per year (the per year rate will be how much is taken out of your coin balance, not the total in a contract)
If you complete a sign-and-trade, you have to negotiate a fair contract with the player you’re singing or else the deal falls through. The per-year rate of their new contract will come out of your 100 coin balance for free agency (Ex: If I sign Grant Williams for 4 years, 15 coins per year, now I have 85 coins for free agency).
Schlenk: I really really hope we get some funny bids and decisions again. Poor Swagduck after the Tatum move to Sacremento 😢
Here’s the twist to free agency this mock: The more a team spends on free agency, the worse draft pick they have! So if I spend all 100 coins, I am likely to have the 30th pick. If I spend 0, I’m in contention for the first. Silver wants as many teams as possible to be competitive. TV executives would love that.
If there are ties in the draft order, a spin-the-wheel lottery will decide the picks.
When the draft comes around after free agency, every team will need to send a big board in or else they will automatically be given the top player on the Fanspo draft board.
Polls:
Just like in the first mock, we are not doing a simulation on 2K or BBGM. We don’t have the time to set that all up. Instead, the people of Fanspo will decide!
After all of free agency, the draft, and all trading is complete, polls will commence on the daily in a knock-out style bracket, with voters choosing which team did the best job in the mock. Team rosters, draft picks, and marketing ratings will be given to voters to make their decision. We go until there’s one team left, but that team does not automatically win the mock. There will be separate brackets for teams competing or rebuilding. The format and byes will be adjusted as needed as previously mentioned.
Then comes the final vote. The winner of the contending voting and the winner of the rebuilding voting will be put in a poll against each other in our grand finale. Whichever team voters think did a better job at meeting their objectives wins!
That’s all the rules! Can you handle the chaos the second time around, two years on? Find out and sign up below.
