🏗 League Structure (Year 1 of the BBL)
The NBA is gone.
We now have:

66 Game Season
14-Team Playoffs
Relegation threat
🔴 Division 2 (20 Teams)
Lower salary caps
Promotion race
10 New Expansion Teams.
🟢 NBA Academy
Draft permanently removed
Players enter through academy system at 16
Teams sign prospects via development pipelines
The G-League remains as a third tier with no promotion.
🚨 CHANGE #1 — RELEGATION SYSTEM
You lose, You suffer!
🔻 Automatic Relegation
Worst team in each conference → relegated to Division 2.
No play-in. No safety net.
⚠️ Survivor Series
Second worst team in each conference plays Best-of-3.
Winner stays in Division 1.
Loser faces the final test.
🔥 Final Promotion Game
Loser of the first Survivor series vs Winner of Division 2.
One game.
Winner plays Division 1 next season.
Loser plays Division 2.
Every late season game matters.
No more tanking.
💰 CHANGE #2 — NEW SALARY CAP SYSTEM
No more soft cap, this is the future.
Division 1
Salary Cap: $180M
1 season over → no punishment
2 seasons over → no contracts above $35M
3 seasons over → cannot sign unless under 12 players
4+ seasons → escalating financial penalties
Soft Cap: $210M
1 season → tax + no exceptions + max contract = $7.5M
2–3 seasons → harsher tax, no MLE, no trade exceptions
Hard Cap: $275M
1 season → previous penalties
2+ seasons → automatic relegation
Division 2
Lower caps:
Salary Cap: $165M
Soft Cap: $190M
Hard Cap: $250M
Break hard cap twice?
Team must be sold or disbanded.
No loopholes.
🤑 CHANGE #3 — ACHIEVEMENT-BASED CONTRACTS
No more 35% max contracts based on hype.
Division 1:
Starting max: $20M
+$1M per season played
+$2M per All-Star
+$2.5M per All-NBA
+$3M ROTY
+$3M DPOY
+$5M MVP
Minimums:
$500K start
+$250K per season
Cap at $3M
Division 2:
Starting max: $15M
Hard cap at $40M regardless of awards
Minimum $250K start, capped at $1.5M
Superstars get paid.
Role players don’t accidentally become max contracts.
🔄 CHANGE #4 — LOAN SYSTEM
Teams may loan up to 3 players.
Max 1 season
Stats count toward career awards
Rights retained unless permanently traded
Academy prospects can be part of deals
This prevents talent hoarding and increases chances of promotion.
🏀 CHANGE #5 — 66 GAME SEASON
Game format:
4 games vs each conference opponent (36 games)
3 games vs each opposite conference team (30 games)
Total: 66.
Less fatigue. More importance. Higher stakes.
🏆 CHANGE #6 — 14 TEAM PLAYOFFS (Division 1)
Seeds 1–5 → Strong positioning advantages Seeds 6–9 → Play-In Tournament
All series Best-of-7.
Top seeds receive byes.
🌍 CHANGE #7 — WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (Every 2 Years)

Final Four (Division 1)

EuroLeague Final Four
National Basketball League Champion
Basketball Africa League Champion
Champions from Canada, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Asia
Winner = Official World Champion.
