The Nets have a good problem, but it’s still a problem. Too many wings and not enough minutes. Cam Johnson enters RFA after the season and today could be an opportunity to cash him in for a wing-needy team with draft capital like the Pacers.

Currently, the Nets have five forwards among Mikal Bridges, Dorian Finney-Smith, Jae Crowder, Royce O’Neale, and Cam Johnson. Six, depending on how you play Simmons. Four of these six are already locked in for next year. What the Nets could actually use is another first round pick. Trading Johnson’s contract also helps saves millions on the luxury tax bill coming their way after this season.

For the Pacers, they are desperate for good, young wings in the 6’8”-6’9” range. This trade lets them see what they can have in Johnson, RFA rights, and leaves enough draft capital to make a splash on draft night.

Win-win for both team’s needs right now.
