Spurs Off-Season Analysis

SUCCESS

The first and foremost thing I'd do is let everyone who is a UFA walk, especially Cedi Osman who's contract is too expensive. I'm also releasing Devonte Graham which saves the team 12.6 million dollars.

Next, I'm trading Tre Jones to the Washington Wizards for three 2026 second round picks. Saves some cap and gets an inconsistent player off the roster.

Attacking free-agency looking for some dudes who can defend. I think Immanuel Quickly can be out-bid from Toronto with the cap space the Spurs would have, and Hartenstein would be getting paid pretty well for a backup center. Both guys who can contribute on high levels in this Pop system.

In the draft, I'm looking for guys who are proven but who can also be developed. Obviously looking for team first dudes who can either defend, catch and shoot, or get Wemby the ball. Heres the picks I mocked in my two round mock draft I completed today:

First Round- (4th Overall) Nikola Topic (PG), (8th Overall) Dalton Knecht (SF)

Second Round- (35th Overall) Baylor Scheierman (SG), (48th Overall) Keshad Johnson (PF)

Heres what I think the depth chart will look like at the start of the season with all these moves:

PG: Immanuel Quickly/Nikola Topic/ Malaki Branham

SG: Devin Vassell/ Baylor Scheierman/ Blake Wesley

SF: Julian Champagnie/ Dalton Knecht/ Keldon Johnson

PF: Jeremy Sochan/ Keshad Johnson/ Victor Wemby

C: Victor Wembanyama/ Isaiah Hartenstein/ Zach Collins

PG is obviously the most improved position. You have two young dudes in the rotation with Quickley and Topic that will contribute right away in their own ways, with Quickley being an elite defender and Topic having the potential to be one of the leagues best playmakers. You get two elite shooters in the draft with Scheierman and Knecht. They're coming off the bench right away contributing good minutes... no more having inconsistent rotations. I believe Knecht could work his way into the starting lineup by mid season if Champagnie or Johnson struggles. I think that these moves all make sense. Getting a young core around Wemby right away is crucial. I'm interested to see how Pop would use his rotations with this team. I think this team can easily contend for a play-in spot next year... its just depends on how this team plays together.

What do y'all think? Does this plan make sense? Do you think the Spurs would find success with this roster? Feel free to critique or give opinions. Everything is welcome.
