Mavs are not happy how they got AD. This changes the Luka trade from a "win now" into "the new hopes" with the #1 and #2 in a good draft (and Cooper Flagg can smile again). Mavs also get the cap-relief to sign the picks, and can make the Kyrie situation into a rehab-year to lead into a sign-and-trade.

AD is the type of max-player the Spurs are supposed to be trading for. 11 years older than Wemby, all-NBA, all-defense and many years of playoff leadership, all in a position of need ... and a player who is available because he was kicked out of his home for Luka (want revenge motives vs Lakers?). Teams are supposed to have more than one playable player taller than 6'8', and two very dynamic big are easy to play together (many Spurs fans need this note).

Spurs are low on disposable contracts, so now they need to trade popular players to get a good vet. The best thing to do is keep the gang together on a non-rival team in need of a culture-shift. Hornets fans, just look up "point Sochan" to find stories of how Spurs fans felt about this group with Wemby (then honor your new first-dibs status on Tre Jones as a free agent). Also, you guys get an awesome 2027 draft, as the Mavs pick is more valuable and you get a Hawks-swap option on the lesser of those three firsts.
