Pelicans: I am looking at this as if the season is close to the trade deadline and Pelicans are bottom dwellers. Murphy is valuable to a contending team, but draft capital and some young players could help them move in the right direction.

In this trade, they get out of the Poole contract, get Sochan whom is still only 22, Vassell fits better to Fears than Poole, and they get an expiring contract in Barnes.

Spurs: This gives them a better win now player in Murphy, they reduce their cap obligations for future signings of Castle and Harper, and it frees up minutes for Carter Bryant, Julian, and Waters that will provide better shooting.
