If Phoenix wanted to revamp the bench using the Jae Crowder piece, this would be best case scenario for Phoenix.

Phoenix gets the shot creator they need for off the bench to help replace the bench scoring from Cam Johnson, who is now in the starting lineup. Vanderbilt comes in for Phoenix as a young wing defender who is still trying to improve his jumper. In the meantime, his defensive versatility is what Phoenix sorely lacks and he also brings athleticism and potential in the pick and roll. Gay is going to be the offensive player that Craig couldn't be for Phoenix for the last year. He is up there in age and the defense may be suspect, but Vanderbilt will help bail him out on some possessions. A bench core that consists of Payne, Clarkson, Gay, Vanderbilt, and Saric is a big step up from Craig, Shamet, and Lee securing big roles.

Utah gets the elusive first round pick that they crave. Players such as Torrey Craig and Jae Crowder may not have a long-term spot on their roster since they are tanking, but I think this strengthens the possibility of acquiring more picks for their rebuild by contending teams. Shamet is the wild card. He is a young spot-up shooter who has shown better on-ball ability. Given his age, he could theoretically be a piece contenders would want as a spot-up, or he can continue to develop other skills.
